Condom size chart

According to Trojan, its standard condoms measure 2 to 2.2 inches wide, and its snug fit ones 1.8 inches or less (Trojan Canada).

So a girth from 10.5 to 11.9 cm calls for a 53 mm condom, and 14 cm calls for a 60 mm one.

Girth means how far around the penis is at its widest point, and it's the number that matters most for fit. Sizes are worked out from erect measurements, never from soft ones (Condom Depot).

Length turns out to matter less than you'd think. ONE has found that a standard condom is longer than 91% of people need, too tight for 50% of people and too loose for 30% (ONE).

What it shows is the nominal width. That's the width of the condom lying flat and unstretched, measured with a ruler, and it works out as half the condom's own circumference at its narrowest point (Mister Size).

If a condom is sold in the EU, this width has to appear on the packet. The standard allows the real width to be off by as much as 2 mm in either direction, so two condoms both labelled 52 mm may not feel identical.

1. Get erect first, because that's the state sizes are based on.
2. Loop a soft tape, some string or a paper strip once round the widest part of the shaft, which is normally just under the head (Okamoto).
3. If you went with string or paper, note the spot where the two ends overlap, then straighten it against a ruler to read off the length (Condom Depot).

A condom needs to grip your penis a little snugly if it's going to stay put (ONE). One that fits badly has a greater chance of tearing or coming off (Durex).

Pinching, rolling up or breaking usually means it's too small. Slipping or bunching usually means it's too big (Condom Depot).

The widths listed are the nominal widths each manufacturer publishes. Words such as Regular Fit or Close Fit in a product name are the brand's own; the Size column in our chart goes by width.

You don't need to do any maths. Measure your girth and find it in the size chart, and it will tell you which width to buy. ONE points out that doubling the nominal width gives you the condom's approximate circumference (ONE).

That is the condom before it stretches, so it comes out a little smaller than the girth it fits. A 53 mm condom is about 10.6 cm round, and the chart gives it to a girth of 10.5 to 11.9 cm.
